protomenfan200x asked: When you made Charles Park, did you have a distinct story in mind, or just have some vague idea of a plot? I ask this because I'm listening to CPIII (really good by the way), and it feels like there's a plot under the surface I'm not picking up on. The music is dark and mysterious , and I can't tell how to feel about Charles Park. Are we supposed to root for him, or fear him? Is he the one seeing "atonement," or is he getting his comeuppance? Or would you rather leave it up to interpretation?
_it’s sorta vague on purpose. the artwork in the physical box set fills in a bunch of the story gaps on the record- story wise it’s probably closest to something like near dark meets omega man the original dawn of the dead with a little they live thrown in for good measure. for me, near dark is kind of the perfect film to tie it to, even if CP has nothing to do with vampires. it’s the right tone and feel in a lot of ways. the name Charles Park is sort of ambiguous on purpose. i liked that it could be a place, it could be a person, but it doesn’t matter. it’s a feeling more than anything else. when i made the first record way back when, i kept looking at freeze frames of the street in halloween- carpenter would always shoot it like he was standing in the shadows from the distance- you’d get little bits of the trees blowing in the wind, stuff like that. not so much any sequence, just the way that the dark street in the fall felt in that movie. that’s where most of it came from.
konkarne asked: I'm really enjoying what I heard in the Brigador trailer you posted. The drums and percussive elements add great depth to the track. Please keep jammin' the jam you jam, man. Super excited to play the game and hear the music!
thx dude ~=[„_„]:3
protomenfan200x asked: So, is the "Against All Odds" part just synth then?
As is the Proto way, it’s probably best to let that one stay a secret.
protomenfan200x asked: Hey, did you create the chiptune version of "Against All Odds" that's in the "Fade to Phil" edition of Due Vendetta? Or where you not involved with the Protomen music-wise until you opened for them the first time?
_nope. i was involved in it at that point, but i started making 8-bit versions of their music with vengeance. against all odds isn’t exactly chip. listen to it closely..
i never really thought a sampler would completely blow my mind. holy molyy.
